Carbo e-Therm

about

Carbo e-Therm is a high-efficiency, electrically heated coating developed for use in the nonhazardous low-voltage range (e.g. 12/24V).
Carbo e-Therm is suitable for temperatures up to approx. 500°C. Its excellent applicability to very different geometries and surfaces plus high heating power open up a wide field of possible uses.
There are a wide variety of possible applications for Carbo e-Therm:

  • panel heating for automobiles,
  • floor heating (wet areas, mobile homes),
  • wall heating (renovated buildings),
  • workplate temperature control (stone worktops),
  • temperature control of measuring devices (optics),
  • heating in mechanical engineering,
  • heating for forms (CFK/GRP laminates),
  • heating of food (catering),
  • devices in medical engineering,
  • frost protection.

Matching the requirements of different applications, we offer a number of Carbo e-Therm variants differing in their bonding systems (e.g. acrylate, silicone and epoxy resins) and the temperatures for their use:

Properties

Characteristics:

Compared to conventional heating elements Carbo e-Therm presents numerous advantages:

  • excellent application, manually or mechanically like paint,
  • heating of surface geometries of any shape,
  • extremely high electrical safety by working on non-hazardous low voltage,
  • direct use of low-voltage sources (e.g. 12/24 V onboard, solar power),
  • very simple electrical connection,
  • easy supervision and control,
  • high heating power for low supply voltage,
  • perfectly even heating of large surface areas without hot spots,
  • very attractively priced compared to conventional heating systems.

Depending on the product type, Carbo e-Therm consists of a binder matrix and a specially matched carbon formulation. The excellent conductivity of the coating (R☐ to 1Ω) makes it possible to implement high heating power on non-hazardous low voltage (e.g. 12/24 V). Compared to conventional resistance heating, Carbo e-Therm distributes heat absolutely evenly without hot spots.
Carbo e-Therm heating layers are highly rugged mechanically. Depending on the product type they exhibit very good permanent elasticity or high hardness, plus they are characterized by excellent resistance to water and alkalis.

Carbo e-Therm goes a long way: one liter suffices to coat a surface of up to 4 sqm. It can be applied manually or mechanically, by brush, squeegee, roller or spraying. Coatings dry and can then be painted within a few minutes.

Applications

Applications:

Automotive
With its low electric resistance Carbo e-Therm is an optimal solution for onboard automotive networks operating on 12 to 24 V. To ensure a pleasant warming of vehicle space interior panels, steering wheels or arm rests can easily be equipped with Carbo e-Therm. The time for interior heating can be reduced since it is independent of motor heating.
Particulary with regard to prospective technological developments in automotive industry (e.g. the e-cars), Carbo e-Therm is an excellent heating system as it can be operated directly with available onboard network.

Windenergy
Carbo e-Therm is excellent as a heating coating for the rotor blades of wind power plants. In very windy and cold regions, or in very adverse weather conditions, you often find that the rotor blades tend to ice up. The results are poorer aerodynamics and energy yield, out-of-balance conditions that make it necessary to shut a plant down to avoid damage and are all the more costly the longer they last, or safety risks in the surroundings produced by the detachment of pieces of ice.
Carbo e-Therm coatings are integrated straight into the rotor blades or applied to the surface. Given the thin coatings that are necessary, typically between 50 and 200 µ, Carbo e-Therm heating systems produce no significant increase in the weight of the parts. The operating voltages needed are in the safe low-volt range.

foodstuffs industry
Carbo e-Therm is used in foodstuffs industry at the tempering of confectionery. Carbo e-Therm functions as a heated coating for a continuous supply of heat in mixing systems – to correctly maintain the temperature of masses for producing confectionery, and to guard them against hardening. Carbo e-Therm reduces the effort otherwise involved in tempering confectionery. The heated coatings can be operated on safe small voltages. Plus, the temperature is very easily regulated

Construction
Carbo e-Therm is used as floor and wall heating in construction industry. Laminate flooring or ceramic tiles can be coated with Carbo-Therm. The coating enables a fast and homogeneous heating of the room. By working on non-hazardous low voltage Carbo e-Therm is suitable for wet area.
In addition Carbo e-Therm can be used as mold prevention system in renovation of ol buildings. Damp spots are heated and dried. In this way, formations of mildew are effectively prevented.
